Kuantan terletak di Pantai Timur Semenanjung Malaysia di antara garis lintang 3° 49′ 0″ di utara dan garis bujur 102° 20′ 0″ di timur. Di bahagian timur ialah Laut Cina Selatan dengan panjang kawasan pantai 56 km (35 batu). Di sebelah barat ialah Daerah Maran dan Jerantut, di utara ialah Negeri Terengganu dan di selatan ialah Daerah Pekan.
